Jazmine Sullivan
Jazmine Jacobson was born in and was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam was once a vocalist for the backup band of Philadelphia International Records. Her father offered her a position as curator of the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She and her family later moved into the historic mansion. She was a graduate in 2005 of Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in which she was singing music major. Sullivan began singing in the school's choir as a contralto later she joined the adult choir just a few years later. Sullivan wasn't exposed to secular music at first. "I began singing in solos in the church, and someone wanted me to sign up for a gospel recording at age 11. but I wasn't prepared to take that step," she says. "Then when McDonald's had a competition for kids in major cities, I got a chance to perform 'Accept What God Wills' on Showtime at the Apollo and the audience responded really well". The singer performed along with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday celebration at thirteen. Sullivan had signed her first contract to Jive Records when she was 15. At the age of 15 she signed with Jive Records. She recorded an entire album at Jive Records and it didn't get made available for release. Sullivan was eventually dropped off the record label. Missy Elliott was her producer for a few songs on Her debut album. For instance "Backstabbers", a buzz track produced by Timbaland composed by Elliott.
